ESOL Program

The Briggs Center offers free ESOL classes for adults.

In collaboration with MCAEL, the Briggs Center ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) Program offers ESOL classes to adults with limited English proficiency currently living in the United States.

All classes are free and taught by trained volunteers. Classes are available in-person or online at various levels, days and times. In addition to ESOL classes, tutors (ESOL and citizenship) are available upon request and tutor availability.

Registration and Placement Test

All prospective new students must register online and take an online placement test. Registration is available online only — please no “walk-ins.” The online placement test is required in order for prospective new students to be considered for enrollment.

Enrollment

Summer semester enrollment period is May 26-28, 2025. You can see the most updated schedule of classes here. All previously registered students can request a class here during the enrollment period. Enrollment in a requested course is not guaranteed and works like a lottery system.

If selected for an ESOL course, the instructor will email the student with class details and textbook recommendations. Students who are not selected will be added to a waitlist and the program director will contact them if a seat becomes available later in the semester.

Volunteer Teachers

We’re in search of volunteers to teach ESOL classes. If that’s you, please fill out this form to get started!
