Mission & Vision

The Briggs Center welcomes, supports, provides services for, and advocates on behalf of immigrants and refugees.

Founded in 2006, the Briggs Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Our guiding principles are faith-inspired action, radical hospitality, and the passionate pursuit of inclusivity. (Read our 2023 mid-year report here.)

We are coaches. We are conductors. We are cheerleaders for justice.

We are people who care about empowering people, especially “the least of these” (Proverbs 14:31, Matthew 25:40). We are passionate about helping immigrants, refugees, and newcomers gain citizenship, become fluent in English, find community and belonging, and overcome obstacles that may stand in their way. This is how we “welcome the stranger” (Leviticus 19:33-34, Matthew 25:35).

We happily work in partnership with other legal service providers, community groups, faith-based organizations, and social service providers who share our mission to welcome, support, provide services for, and advocate on behalf of immigrants and refugees.

Whether you need help from our legal clinic, have questions about taking an ESOL class, or want to lend us a hand, we want to hear from you. Because all are welcome.
